Le séminaire de la chaire PARI reçoit Philpp Brandt qui fera une communication intitulée :
The data scientist identity: Reflexive creativity in the digital age.

Summary :

The “data scientist” role has gained sudden and widespread recognition as a new professional identity. Although sociologists have studied lawyers, doctors and other professional groups for a long time, they have rarely had the chance to observe the initial construction of professional identities. I leveraged an early moment in the ongoing technological transformation to watch professional identity construction in New York City’s data community. I show that modern data experts compare themselves to established colleagues as they construct their identity. Rather than agreeing on a general definition, data scientists experimentally explore who they are. I call this approach “reflexive creativity”. This argument has implications for shaping who data scientists are and how they affect public and private life.
